Information about overdraft protection on debit card transactions

Surrey Bank & Trust can no longer authorize and pay ATM withdrawals and one-time debit card transactions that overdraw your account unless you have authorized us to do so.¹

In accordance with federal law effecting all financial institutions, we must have your permission to consider approving overdrafts on ATM and everyday debit card transactions.¹  Without your authorization, Surrey Bank & Trust will be required to decline all ATM withdrawals and one-time debit card purchases (such as gas, groceries, retail stores, restaurants, etc.) that would overdraw your account.

Please review What You Need to Know about Overdrafts and Overdraft Fees, which contains information about Surrey Bank & Trust’s overdraft practices.

To give us authorization to consider authorizing and paying ATM and everyday debit card transactions, please:

  • Call (336) 783-3924 or (336) 783-3928.
  • Complete the secure form below, making sure to save or print a copy for your records.

  • Ask at your branch for an authorization form.

We offer multiple ways to protect your account against overdrafts

Overdraft Privilege (ODP)

This service is made available to qualified checking customers 30 days after an account is opened. If you opt-in for Overdraft Privilege1, we will generally pay your overdraft items up to $500; however, we reserve the right to unilaterally refuse payment of any item without advance notice to you.

When we pay overdraft items, you will be charged our normal AOD (Authorized Overdraft) fee, currently $32, for each item paid.  Both the amount of the overdraft and all applicable fees, including but not limited to the $32 AOD fees, are included in this limit.

Overdraft Privilege is available for all checks you write (or authorize) and ACH items.  You must bring your account to a positive balance within 30 days from the date it became overdrawn.

¹ Surrey Bank & Trust pays overdrafts at our discretion, which means that we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction. Surrey Bank & Trust has the right not to pay any item.

Cash Reserve

With this personal line of credit, whenever you have an NSF item, we will automatically transfer funds from your Cash Reserve Account to your checking account, up to the amount of your credit limit.

Cash Reserve applications are subject to credit approval.

Please contact your branch for more information.

Linked Accounts

Link a new or existing Surrey Bank & Trust deposit account to your checking account to protect against overdrafts. If you should have an NSF item, we will automatically transfer funds from the linked account to your checking account.

Please ask your branch for information or to link a new or existing account to your checking account.
